Reviews

Read and reply to customer reviews, draft replies and translations with AI, and turn reviews into a list of features, bugs and improvements.

The Reviews tab shows your app's recent customer reviews from App Store Connect. You can reply to them, draft replies and translations with your own AI key, and use Insights to pull concrete work items out of what people are saying.

What you need#

  • An app open in the workspace. Reviews load the first time you open the tab.
  • For Draft with AI, Translate with AI and Analyze with AI: an AI provider and model set up under Settings ▸ AI. These are free. See AI providers and models.

Browse reviews#

Slipway loads the 50 most recent reviews, newest first. Use the controls at the top of the tab to narrow them down:

  • All · N shows every loaded review.
  • Needs reply · N shows only reviews without a developer response.
  • Insights opens the analysis view (see below).
  • The country menu (All countries, or a single territory) filters by storefront.
  • The refresh button reloads reviews from App Store Connect.

Each card shows the rating, title, text, the reviewer's nickname, territory and date. If you've already replied, your reply appears under DEVELOPER RESPONSE.

The inspector shows Ratings (recent): the average rating and a 1–5★ breakdown of the loaded reviews. If any reviews still need a reply, a Nudge card counts them. Click Show them to switch to Needs reply.

Reply to a review#

  1. Click Reply… on a review that doesn't have a response yet.
  2. Write your reply in the box, or click Draft with AI to have your AI provider write one. Drafts are short (under 80 words), in the reviewer's language, and grounded in your listing. If the review reports a bug, the draft acknowledges it.
  3. Edit the draft. Nothing is sent until you click Send.
  4. Click Send. Apple publishes replies on the App Store, usually within a day.

Click Cancel to close the editor without sending.

Note — Slipway only offers Reply… on reviews that have no response. To edit or delete a reply you've already posted, use App Store Connect.

Translate a review#

Reviews that contain non-Latin text (Japanese, Arabic, Cyrillic and so on) get a Translate with AI link. Click it to replace the text on the card with an English translation. Click Show original to switch back. Translations aren't saved.

Find out what reviews are asking for#

Insights reads the loaded reviews and suggests up to 8 concrete items to act on. Each item is one of:

Kind Meaning
Feature Something users ask for that the app doesn't have.
Bug Something broken or crashing.
Improve Something that exists but is confusing, slow or annoying.
  1. Open Reviews ▸ Insights.
  2. Click Analyze with AI. Slipway sends the review text and your listing to your AI provider. Similar requests are merged and ranked by how many reviews raise them.
  3. For each suggestion, read the detail, the review count and the quote from a real review. Then:
    • Click Accept to move it to Planned.
    • Click Reject to hide it.
  4. Later, click Analyze again to refresh the suggestions after more reviews come in.

Accepted and rejected items count as already decided. When you analyze again, Slipway tells the AI not to suggest them again, and only the pending suggestions are replaced. Under Planned, click Remove to drop an item. The rejected count has a Forget them link that clears the rejected list, so those items can come back.

Insights are saved per app on this Mac. The header shows when you last analyzed and how many reviews were included.

Get told about bad reviews#

Under Notifications in the inspector, Notify on 1–2★ reviews sends a macOS notification when a new 1★ or 2★ review arrives. Slipway checks every 10 minutes while it's running. The first check only records the reviews that already exist, so you won't get a backlog of alerts. The same setting is in Settings ▸ General. See Menu bar and notifications.

Tips#

  • Reply to low ratings first: Needs reply with a country filter is a fast way to work through them.
  • Replies are public. Treat AI drafts as a first draft, and check any promises about fixes before you send.
  • Insights only covers the reviews currently loaded (the latest 50). Click the refresh button before analyzing to include the newest ones.

Troubleshooting#

"Add your AI provider key in Settings first." No usable provider and model are set up. Slipway opens Settings so you can add them.

The AI returns an error. Slipway shows the provider's error message as a notice. Check the key, the model and your provider's usage limits under Settings ▸ AI.

"No customer reviews yet." App Store Connect has no reviews for this app yet, or they haven't loaded. Click the refresh button.
