The first time you open Slipway, a short setup flow connects your API key and loads your apps. Each key connects one team; you can add more teams later from Settings.
What you need#
- The
.p8file, Issuer ID and Key ID from Create an App Store Connect API key.
Connect your key#
- On the Welcome to Slipway screen, click Get Started.
- On Connect App Store Connect, add the key file. Drag the
.p8onto the box that says Drop your .p8 key here, or click it to browse. The box turns green and shows Private key loaded. - Fill in Issuer ID and Key ID. If the file is still named
AuthKey_<KEY ID>.p8, the Key ID is already filled in. - Click Connect. Slipway shows Checking key permissions… while it signs a token with your key and asks App Store Connect for your apps.
- On Key verified, check the Team name. Slipway reads it from your App Store seller name when it can. Change it if you like; it's only a label inside Slipway.
- Click Continue.
- On You’re connected, read the three notes, then click Open My Apps.
Your apps list opens with a confirmation such as "Connected — 9 apps across 1 team". Slipway also starts watching release status for the menu bar; see Menu bar and notifications.
What the last screen tells you#
- AI features need a key. AI features use a provider key you add in Settings (
⌘,). The screen mentions Anthropic, but any supported provider works. See AI providers and models. - Watch from the menu bar. Review status and new ratings show up in the menu bar.
- Sync when you’re ready. Metadata edits stay on your Mac until you press the sync button in the toolbar. See Metadata.
How Slipway names the team#
If you leave the name to Slipway, it tries, in order:
- The seller name on the public App Store listing of one of your released apps.
- The name of the team's Account Holder.
If neither is found, the onboarding flow asks you to type a name, and the Add Account sheet uses Team <KEY ID>.
Add another team#
- Open Slipway ▸ Settings… (
⌘,) and choose Accounts. - Click Add Account….
- In Add App Store Connect account, drop the
.p8file on the box or click to browse, then fill in Issuer ID and Key ID. - Optionally type a Team name. Leave it blank to have Slipway detect it.
- Click Add Account. Slipway shows Checking key…, then adds the team and reloads your apps.
The Accounts list shows each team with its app count, Key ID and Issuer ID. Adding a key whose Key ID is already connected replaces that entry.
Rename a team#
With two or more teams, each team appears as a group in the apps sidebar. Right-click the team and choose Rename Team…, type the new name and click Rename. The name changes in Slipway's sidebar and apps list only; nothing changes in App Store Connect.
With a single team the sidebar shows no team group. To change that team's name, remove the account and add it again with a new Team name.
Remove a team#
- Open Settings ▸ Accounts.
- Click Remove… next to the team.
- Confirm Remove. The key is deleted from your Keychain, and you'll need the
.p8file to add this team again.
If you remove the last team, Slipway returns to the welcome screen.
Troubleshooting#
"App Store Connect returned 401 — the key may be revoked, or the Issuer ID doesn’t match. Check both values and try again." Apple rejected the token. Check that the Issuer ID is your team's (copy it again from Users and Access ▸ Integrations), that the Key ID matches the file, and that the key hasn't been revoked. Tokens are time-stamped, so also check that your Mac sets its date and time automatically.
"Could not read the .p8 as a PKCS#8 / ES256 key. Use the unmodified file Apple gave you (starts with -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----)." The file isn't a valid App Store Connect key, or it was edited. Use the original download. If you no longer have it, revoke the key and generate a new one.
Connect is greyed out.
Slipway needs all three: a loaded .p8, an Issuer ID and a Key ID.
"Keychain error …" macOS refused to save the key. Make sure your login keychain is unlocked, then try again.
"No apps found for this key." The key is valid but can't see any apps. Check the key's role, or create your first app; see The apps list and sidebar.
