DocsThe apps list and sidebar

Getting started

The apps list and sidebar

Find, filter and open your apps, switch between apps and teams, open apps in their own windows, and start a new app.

The apps list is Slipway's home screen. It shows every app from every connected team, with a sidebar for team pages on the left and an inspector for the selected app on the right.

The apps list#

Each row shows the app's icon, name and bundle ID, then:

Column What it shows
Platform The platforms the app has versions for, such as iOS or macOS
Live The version on the App Store, or a dash if the app hasn't been released
Status The status of the app's most active version

The status favours the version you're working on: if a newer version is being prepared, in review, approved or rejected, you see that rather than the live version's Ready for Sale.

Apps are grouped under a heading for each team and sorted by name.

Find an app#

The toolbar above the list has:

  • Search: matches app names and bundle IDs as you type.
  • Status: All: limit the list to Ready for Sale, Waiting for Review, In Review, Rejected or Prepare for Submission.
  • Team: All: limit the list to one team. This only appears when you have more than one team.
  • A count such as 12 of 40: how many apps match out of the total.

If nothing matches, click Clear filters. To reload from App Store Connect, click the refresh arrow at the top of the sidebar ("Refresh apps from App Store Connect").

Open an app#

  • Click a row to select it. The inspector shows Details: team, platform, live version, status, the date the version was created and the primary locale.
  • Double-click the row, click the chevron at its end, or click Open Release Workspace in the inspector to open the app's workspace.
  • Right-click a row and choose Open or Open in New Window.

Apps open in the main window by default. To open them in their own windows instead, turn on Open apps in a new window in Settings ▸ General. The right-click menu always offers the other choice.

File ▸ Open in New Window (⌘⇧N) opens the selected app, or the app you're working in, in a separate window. Each window has its own tabs and screenshot studio but shares your teams, apps list and settings.

The sidebar#

  • All Apps shows every app from every team.
  • With one team, a Team section lists that team's pages: Sales & Analytics, Provisioning, Users & Access, Xcode Cloud and Alt Distribution.
  • With two or more teams, each team is a collapsible group. Click a team to show only its apps and expand its pages; click it again to fold it. Right-click a team for Rename Team….

On the Free plan, a Slipway Pro note at the bottom of the sidebar links to the plans with Upgrade from $5 / month. See Pricing and Pro.

Inside an app#

When you open an app, the sidebar switches to that app:

  • ‹ Apps at the top returns to the apps list.
  • The app switcher. Click the app's icon and name to get a menu of every app, grouped by team, with the current one ticked. Pick one to switch.
  • Versions lists up to four recent versions per platform, tagged live, editing, in review, approved, rejected or replaced. Click one to work on it. New Version creates the next version; see Metadata.
  • App: App Information, Availability, Accessibility, TestFlight.
  • Marketing: Custom Pages, Experiments, In-App Events, Nominations, Assets.
  • Services: In-App Purchases, Subscriptions, Game Center, Webhooks.
  • A checklist (First Release Checklist or Update Checklist) shows what's done and what's next. Click a step to jump to it; see Submit and release.

The version tabs sit in the toolbar: Metadata, Build, Screenshots, Optimize, Reviews and Submit. An app opens on Metadata, or on Submit if its latest version was rejected.

Create a new app#

Apple's API can't create an app record, so Slipway prepares everything it can and hands the last step to App Store Connect.

  1. Click + New App under All Apps in the sidebar, or choose File ▸ New App….
  2. Fill in the New app form:
    • Team, if you have more than one.
    • Platforms: iOS, macOS, tvOS and/or visionOS.
    • Name: up to 30 characters.
    • Primary language.
    • Bundle ID: pick an existing bundle ID that no app uses yet, or keep Register a new bundle ID and type one. Slipway starts it with the prefix your team already uses.
    • SKU: any unique ID; it defaults to the bundle ID.
    • User access: Full Access, or Limited Access with the people who should see the app. Admin and Finance users, and users with access to reports, always see every app.
  3. Click Continue. Slipway registers the new bundle ID if needed and opens App Store Connect.
  4. In App Store Connect, click +, choose New App, and enter the values shown in Slipway's Finish on App Store Connect sheet. Each has a Copy button.
  5. Leave the sheet open. Slipway checks every few seconds and opens the new app's workspace as soon as it exists. With Limited Access, it also gives the people you picked access.

A new bundle ID can take a minute to appear in Apple's list; reload the page if it's missing.

Troubleshooting#

  • "No apps found for this key." The key can't see any apps. Check its role, or click New App.
  • An error line under the list. One team failed to load. The message comes from App Store Connect; see Troubleshooting and FAQ.
